Iridium implemented a comprehensive set of datamarts for an investment bank in NYC. The client is using Murex™ front to back, including payment, accounting and MLC. Their initial need was to produce data extractions from Murex™ for each department. In the second stage, they wanted to create a global data warehouse receiving daily feeds from all applications and distributing reports to each department.

Iridium took full responsibility over the two phases and assigned 2 to 4 resources for a period of 6 months. In addition to Murex™ skills, Iridium provided expertise on the client’s ETL tool, MS-SQL and other scripting languages used by the firm.

The main challenges were around the requirement gathering and the overall performance of the daily feed. Iridium led this effort by working closely with the business sponsors and assigning “data ownership” to each department.

Regarding the performance, we optimized the datamarts by improving the filtering, optimizing the SQL requests, simplifying calculations and adding parallel processing.

Key success factors: specification, documentation, development, QA & involvement of the business sponsors.

Murex™ Datamart

“This is the most frequent request from our clients.

While it seems easy to extract data out of Murex™, the main challenge resides in the understanding of the Murex™ data dictionary as well as the internal Murex™ representation of instrument, trades and P&L components.”
